We had a great time at GymWorld in San Rafael. Forty five minutes of play, cake then forty five minutes more play to burn off the sugar.
Lost tooth, originally uploaded by RMilstead.
Not 24 hours after Andre lost a tooth at Tyler’s birthday the event was repeated at our house. Tyler woke me to share the exciting news.
Going rate from the Tooth Fairy: four quarters.
That was Tyler’s question to Millie as she tucked him into bed. It’s hard to wrap your head around the concept that a year is suddenly gained like flipping a switch.
He is really excited about tomorrow. So am I.
Tyler’s first day of first grade started with a few tears (for both of us) and ended well. He is in Ms. Shannon’s classroom with Cooper, Tahi and Zoe so there is some familiarity. He enjoyed math the most. They only get to play on Wednesdays.
He was the only one to earn “superstar student” status today.
Tyler and I completed his student survey this evening. Of note:
favorite subject: math
favorite book: Mythbusters
dream career: Paleontologist
learning strength: math “it’s just numbers”
goals: get better at math and reading
As the sun set on July 4th Tyler asked me to get his bike. He’s been pretty happy with his scooter and his bike’s training wheels had been cannibalized for his siblings’ bikes. I suggested that he try pushing the bike with his feet before we put the training wheels back on. So he took to the backyard and wheeled along.
After a few minutes his feet migrated from pushing to pedaling. I cheered loudly. He stopped the bike and told us not to cheer. So I stifled my excitement and watched as all three pedaled in small circles around our backyard.
The next day Millie suggested that we take them to the track at my school and give them more room to pedal. The bikes came out and they flew. Tyler pushed his bike a bit and then he rode. I cried. He kept going, lap after lap. He fell. I applied the Toy Story bandaids and off he went. We repeated the trip today and he just kept going.
Sydney has been riding with training wheels for a few months now and Alden is making good headway now that he can reach the pedals.
Watch how the action plays out between Sydney and Alden. Catch Alden’s angelic smile right after he goes after his sister. Listen to the attempts at parenting!
Today Tyler’s class took a trip to Windrush Farm outside of Petaluma. Wonderful day. You can see photos from the day right here.
Later on, his teacher told me that the new kindergartners were visiting the classroom after school. How quickly this year has flown.
